SO HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

I'd say it began in my early childhood, this insatiable curiosity, this hunger to create worlds. Of course, being a child, I thought it was normal to some extent but as the years started passing me by, my perplexed imagination became a secret, something only I had access to, something I dared not to mention.

SO, WHAT DID I DO?

I continued imagining, took up journaling and continued to feed my mind with all sorts of book content that I could find. But it clearly wasn't enough, it failed to satisfy the sapiosexual in me. By the time I turned 16, I wrote a short story for school that turned into a first chapter that I pursued writing until I felt that it needed to be published, needed to fly on its own. So, there I was, 16, going to a new school, afraid of starting again but hopeful of my stories making it on top, on this app called Dreame. And boy was I obsessed with the way I invented the characters, the way I planned the locations, each story took me to another era, it was as if I could feel the snow, feel the harsh winter as my character struggled to fit in the academy for supernaturals.

PAST OR PRESENT?

Clouded by my thoughts, blind to actual talent, I realized at about 18 that my stories lacked something, they were not realistic, and it made it seem like I was a terrible writer. That's when I had enough, I was in matric, the last year of school being stressful enough but the holidays successfully making me bored, demotivated and feeling untalented. I came up with this crazy idea, something crazier than writing for an app.

Every writer/author has a starting point or is it a tipping point? When the voices in their head want to breathe. March 2023 was my starting point, unexpected and impossible to suddenly want to write a novel and have it published, have it reach global success. Sure, it was meant to happen, but I never thought so soon.

Winter turned to Spring, months in, committed to this idea of writing an actual novel, a novel where I have the space, an infinite amount of imagination to execute it successfully, perfectly and happily.

SURPRISE!!!

It was challenging, overwhelming and instilled a load of fear and doubt in me but I was no quitter, so I followed through, cried, threw tantrums and had one on one conversations with myself in the mirror, the hardest part was getting over the perfectionist in me, forcing my over-analyzing- self to stand down, it was telling the voices to cut me some slack.

19. Halfway through with my novel. I converted my Instagram account, more like dedicated it to marketing my novel. Believe me, the decision was selfless, nothing mattered more than my novel making it out there. Losing friendships, denying myself a chance to rest for a minute came second to me because when my novel hits the shelves, it would be worth every sacrifice.

It's February right now, the year 2024, the year my novel will be released. Excitement. Giddiness, anxiousness and curiosity all piled up in one sentence. I made it this far and it's hard to believe that I pulled it off, but I guess every opinion counts, something I'm looking forward too but maybe a little hesitant about.

I'm fairly new to writing blogs but not to writing in general. As of lately, I've taken comfort in genres such as mystery/ thrillers and crime, but I have a soft spot for swoon worthy romance. too.

My novel is fictitious with elements of mystery and forbidden romance.

This is me in a nutshell,

A debut novelist passionate about writing and all forms of art, an archer, an occasional reader when I'm not writing up the next adventure. A coffee addict with an appreciation for beautiful sunsets and deep connections.
